About Foundation
The Anila Sinha Foundation (ASF) for the promotion of arts and culture of India was established and incorporated in 1998 in memory of Mrs. Anila Sinha, a highly accomplished scholar, educator, Kathak dancer and ambassador of North Indian performing art. Since its inception ASF has introduce a number of master artists to the audiences of the Chicago namely Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Smt. Girija Devi, Pandi Ram Narayan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Swapan Choudhury and others. ASF continued effort in the dissemination of arts through out the community is a tribute to Anila ji's lifelong dedication.
Mission Statement
ASF is a not-for-profit organization with 501(c) (3) status. The mission of the foundation is to preserve, foster and promote the performing arts of North India mainly Kathak dance and music. The foundation plans to achieve its mission by organizing and funding programs, workshops and conferences in the field of classical music and dance mainly Kathak. In keeping with its mission, ASF has opened an Academy of Kathak dance and music, Kathak Nrityakala Kendra with several centers in Chicago-land area, to offer opportunities for students and younger generation of artists to learn this art form in its purist form. Further more ASF plans to collaborate with local music and dance institutions to cultivate cross cultural understanding.
